This recent session took place in a beautiful, light filled home in Brighton. Photographed in natural light and styled in a palette of soft, neutral tones, the focus was able to rest completely on mother and baby. The atmosphere was calm and unhurried. I believe the best moments often happen when we simply allow time for them to unfold, which is why sessions with me are never rushed.

When I arrive at your home, I’ll take a look around to find spaces that will work well and offer us the most flattering light. I’ll guide you as we go and look for those pockets of beautiful light that work naturally with the way your family uses the space. For this particular session, the kitchen was filled with beautiful, soft light, so this is where we spent much of our time. I also enjoyed photographing mother and baby from outside looking in, using the reflection of the olive trees to bring the surrounding landscape into some of the images and create something a little more atmospheric.

There is something particularly special about photographing a family in their own home. Children are surrounded by familiar spaces and routines, helping them to feel at ease, with no pressure to behave in a particular way or perform for the camera. We can move through the home at an unhurried pace, following whatever naturally unfolds. For this session, that meant allowing plenty of time for quiet moments between mother and baby- cuddles, feeds and play- as well as capturing the smaller details of their time together. These small details, such as the way a baby looks up at their mother or reaches for their hand, are often the moments I find myself looking for during a family photo shoot. These quiet, intimate moments can become some of the most meaningful images to look back on as your baby grows and is no longer quite so little.
