In-Home Motherhood Portrait Session in Brighton

This recent session took place in a beautiful light filled home in Brighton. Photographed in natural light and styled in a palette of soft, neutral tones, the atmosphere felt calm and unhurried- creating the space to capture genuine, intimate moments between mother and baby.

Family photography sessions at home offer a relaxed environment where comfort and familiarity allow authentic moments to unfold naturally. Within your own space, children feel at ease, creating the perfect conditions for genuine emotion and connection. With everything you need close at hand and free from the unpredictability of weather or the distractions of unfamiliar surroundings, the experience allows time to simply be present with one another, capturing the subtle, meaningful details that reflect your family life.

As a Sussex family photographer, and a mother to two young children myself, I’m deeply aware that mothers are so often the ones behind the camera, absent from the photographs that document their family’s life. My work is rooted in ensuring they are seen and beautifully represented within their own story.

Family Photography Session in West Sussex

This family portrait session took place on a beach in West Sussex on a late spring morning. Although the weather was a little overcast and windy, it created beautiful soft light throughout the session. With an energetic five year old leading the way, the session was relaxed and child-led, allowing plenty of space to run, explore and enjoy time together. Rather than focusing on perfectly posed photographs, the morning unfolded naturally, capturing genuine connection and those small in-between moments that often become the most treasured images.

Some of my favourite photographs from family sessions are often the simplest ones — shared smiles, cuddles, holding hands and the little interactions that happen naturally when families are simply spending time together.

Outdoor Family portrait session in Stanmer Park, Brighton

This family portrait session took place in Stanmer Park, one of my favourite locations around Brighton and Hove for a family photo shoot. With large open spaces, a variety of backdrops and woodland areas for children to explore, it is often my location of choice for family sessions. Its most attractive feature is that it is often very quiet, creating a calm and relaxed setting for families and children.

The weather was on our side on this sunny spring morning, with soft light creating the perfect setting for natural family photographs. As with many toddlers, it took a little time to warm up, so the session was intentionally slow paced, allowing space to explore, play and settle into the surroundings naturally. I always encourage children to lead the way, allowing genuine connection and the little in between moments to unfold naturally. Often it’s those quiet interactions, playful moments and small gestures that become the images families treasure most. We finished with some gentle play in the woodland. This unstructured play often leads to wonderful images, as I find different angles and approaches to tell the family story.
